My Favorite Things at Disney World #7

Disney is awesome at entertainment

I know that’s a shocking statement to say about a multi-billion dollar entertainment company that has lasted almost a century, but its true.

Not to say that all of the Disney Park shows are great.

Dream Along With Mickey, which is performed daily in the Magic Kingdom is a bit drab and boring, but fun for kids who just want to see Mickey.

Beauty & The Beast, which is presented multiple times during the day at Hollywood Studios is performed awesomely but is truncated so much that it could be confusing to people who haven’t seen the movie. (i.e. You see Beast complaining about Belle not liking him before they’ve even had a scene together.)

Voyage of  the Little Mermaid has awesome puppetry, all the two main songs you want to see (Part of Your World and Under the Sea.) plus it follows the basic plot of the story, although at 15 minutes, is VERY short.

The Festival of the Lion King was actually pretty close to making it to my list, and is near flawless, with awesome acrobatics, audience participation, and great costume design and animatronics.

Then there is Finding Nemo: The Musical.

Simply put this is a great musical and a great show. It is accessible to people who haven’t seen the movie, it has catchy, new fun songs written by Broadway musicians, the puppetry work and set design are phenomenal and its has enough new stuff in it that its entertaining for people who have watched the movie a thousand times.

Brought to you by the same people who created the music for Avenue Q and designed the puppetry for The Lion King, both acclaimed Broadway shows, Finding Nemo: The Musical brings that Broadway panache to Walt Disney World.

Plus it has that thing I’ve mentioned so often before. It encompasses you.  After a few minutes you don’t notice the puppeteers, you don’t notice the audience. You are just noticing the great story that is being shown in front of you.

You root for Nemo, you’re scared for him. Simply put, you are a kid again.

There are some things that I have mentioned over the past 8 days that are not going to be for everyone.

Mitsukoshi will not be for everyone, Le Cellier will not be for everyone. Finding Nemo: The Musical is for everyone.

If you like Musicals it obviously will be, but if you absolutely hate musicals, see this simply for the creativity, and technical aspects of the performance. There is something that everyone will find amazing in this show.
